Overview
Located on the busy Dublin City University Glasnevin Campus, the extension involved constructing a third floor on top of an existing two-story reinforced concrete building.
The third floor was constructed using a steel frame, and the enclosing walls were a glazed curtain wall.
The existing stairs were extended to the new floor by cantilevering them beyond the building footprint over the campus main road, requiring millimetre-perfect structural preparation and installation.
Works also included the fit out and decoration of the new extension.
The building remained in use during the contract, and the contract period was very short, at four months, due to the commencement of the student semester. A tight programme was met, enabling all lectures to commence with no interruption.
