Whatâs the opportunity? (Role)
We are currently seeking an experienced and technically proficient MEP Coordinator to join our dynamic team. As part of McKeon Group’s commitment to sustainable construction and retrofit innovation, the MEP Coordinator will play a pivotal role in delivering high-performance building retrofit projects. This role is key to supporting the delivery of several upcoming Deep Energy Retrofit (DER) projects in the Dublin area. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the integration and performance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systemsâparticularly HVAC, heat pumps, BMS and ventilationâwithin existing buildings. You will ensure all installations meet McKeon Groupâs high standards of energy efficiency, compliance, and quality. Roles & Responsibilities
MEP Coordination
- Lead the coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems with architectural and structural elements
- Ensure compliance of MEP plant and equipment with design requirements
- Review technical drawings and ensure integration of upgraded mechanical plant within existing building fabric
- Manage clash detection and resolve coordination issues using BIM/Revit/Navisworks tools
Mechanical Plant Focus
- Oversee the upgrade or replacement of mechanical plants such as heat pumps, ventilation systems with heat recovery (MVHR), high-efficiency boilers, and building management systems (BMS)
- Ensure correct integration with thermal envelope improvements (e.g., insulation, airtightness) and renewable energy systems (e.g., solar thermal, PV)
- Review and approve mechanical system design proposals and technical submittals
Energy & Compliance Standards
- Ensure mechanical systems meet or exceed Part L compliance and national retrofit standards (e.g., SEAI guidelines, NZEB requirements)
- Coordinate with energy modelers to validate system performance projections
- Support implementation of metering and monitoring strategies for post-occupancy evaluation
Contractor & Design Team Liaison
- Manage and coordinate MEP subcontractors and specialist mechanical installers
- Facilitate communication between design consultants, contractors, and McKeon Group project stakeholders and client representatives
- Attend and chair regular coordination and commissioning meetings
Documentation & Handover
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation: as-builts, O&M manuals, commissioning reports, warranties
- Support training and handover to building operators for ongoing system efficiency

Skills / Experience / Qualifications Required
- Thirdâlevel Degree (or related qualification/trade certification) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 yearsâ experience in MEP coordination, with at least 2 years on retrofit or refurbishment projects (ideally DERâfocused)
- Familiarity with SEAIâs DER grant programmes, NZEB requirements, Part L, and other Building Regulations related to energy efficiency
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, plant room layouts, heat pump technology, and energyâefficient mechanical systems
- Proven experience working in occupied buildings and managing phased handovers during retrofit works
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination software (Navisworks or equivalent)
- Technically driven with a proactive, solutionsâfocused mindset and a passion for sustainable outcomes
- Exceptional communication and coordination skillsâcomfortable liaising with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and subcontractors
- Strong attention to detail and excellent documentation practices
- Ability to manage multiple project interfaces and priorities under tight schedules
Desired but Not Essential
- Experience with SEAI Pathfinder, EERP, or other DER grantâfunded projects
- Knowledge of lowâcarbon heating solutions and emerging renewable technologies (e.g., solar thermal integration)
- Certification as an Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent energy performance qualification
- Competence in energy modelling tools (IES, DesignBuilder, or similar)
