Lighting Retrofit and Control Upgrade
Project Team
Overview
We were the Specialist Electrical Contractor, appointed to deliver a lighting retrofit and control upgrade at the Dublin City University O’Reilly Library.
GREEN CAMPUS PROGRAMME
This project is one of the universities many targeted proposals to reduce Energy Consumption by 33% by 2020 as part of its Green Campus Programme. The Glasnevin campus library holds a capacity for over 500 students across 4 floors surrounding a full height atrium and stair core.
The multipurpose space required the replacement of 2,200 luminaires in open plan, reading space, break-out rooms, meeting rooms, public thoroughfares and the atrium. DCU chose McKeon Group as their specialist contractor because of our track record in delivering extensive programmes of work in busy spaces with minimum interruption to student services and our vastly experienced and knowledgeable project team.
This multiple stakeholder project succeeded as a result of an extensive and detailed pre-planning period with the project consultant engineers, software specialists, manufacturers and the university project team. Challenges around procurement, manufacturing lead-in times, protection of in-situ library stock, continuation of services and continuous area test, commissioning and hand-over required regular communication and Detailed Planning between McKeon Group and DCU Estates.
